It’s pure loss of circulation.
For anyone new to grappling: that lightheaded, buzzing feeling in your head when you resist a bow and arrow choke? That’s the early stage of cerebral hypoperfusion. No amount of conditioning can override that response.
Execution: Where Technique Beats Muscle

Pay attention to your own recovery. When you blow out your grip and forearms, your ability to defend or attack again in the same round nosedives. Between rounds, shake out your hands and work slow, full-arm stretches. Over time, you’ll feel the difference between overworking your muscles and letting the technique do the choking.
Even as a non-competitor, it’s hard not to respect the Bow and Arrow Choke for what it teaches about efficiency in Brazilian jiu jitsu. The tightest finishes come from knowledge, not brute force. Every round you spend on this move, focus on saving your grips, using your hips, and feeling where the pressure lands on their neck, not just in your own hands.
